Even a cursory look at recent elections, particularly after 2014, when the BJP came to power at the Centre, reveals widespread political unrest in the country.

In states where anti-incumbency against the BJP was palpable, and where BJP legislators and leaders were literally "shoed" and had their clothes torn, the party not only won but often did so by thumping margins.

How did the BJP manage it? Why was it able to do so?

Much of the answer lies in the languidness of the Opposition. When demonetisation was implemented in 2016 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought 50 days to change the destiny of the country, what actually changed?

The change was real, of course. The whole country stood in queues...
