Srinagar, Sept. 22 -- Day 2 of the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly's Monsoon Session saw heated exchanges, protests and several major public issues take centre stage. The House witnessed a sharp holiday row over Sheikh Abdullah, Maharaja Hari Singh and July 13, followed by a BJP walkout.
MLAs also raised concerns over highway checking, electricity amnesty and tourism diversification. The government disclosed that the 6.83% power tariff hike could add Rs.251 crore to the consumer burden, while outstanding government power dues stood at Rs.4,385.30 crore.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo told the House that J&K has around 51,000 cancer patients, while outlining measures for screening and treatment.
