Srinagar, Aug. 15 -- Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday called for greater unity, integrity and commitment to nation-building while stressing the need to empower women and youth, generate employment and ensure environmental sustainability.

Sinha was speaking after hoisting the National Flag at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. A ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute.

Paying homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, the Lieutenant Governor recalled the difficult journey and struggle behind India's independence. He also paid tribute to civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities this year.
