Tall Walnut Trees, Unsafe Harvesting Claim Four Lives in Kashmir
Srinagar, Sept. 3 -- Srinagar- As the walnut harvesting season begins across Kashmir, falls from tall and slippery trees have claimed at least four lives of seasonal workers, once again highlighting the occupational hazards associated with the traditional harvesting practice.
One of the deceased, Mohammad Maqbool Bhat of Damjan, Qazigund, was the lone breadwinner of his family and is survived by two young children. Ghulam Mohammad Ganai of Laribal, Tral, died after falling while threshing walnuts and later succumbed at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
