Srinagar, Aug. 6 -- Srinagar- A shepherd was killed after being struck by lightning during heavy rainfall in the Dutibegh area of Keran sector in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Shahmeer Ahmad Khatana, son of Abdul Rasheed Khatana and a resident of Warsun in Kralpora area, they said.

The incident occurred amid heavy rain in the area, officials said, as per news agency GNS.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further investigation is underway, they added.
