Srinagar, Sept. 17 -- Srinagar- The season's first snowfall covered the higher reaches of Kashmir on Thursday, with Gulmarg, Gurez, Zojila and Sonamarg receiving fresh snow as widespread rain lashed the plains, bringing down temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir.

The upper reaches of Gulmarg, including the Apharwat Peak and Gondola Phase 2 area, received snowfall during the night, officials said. The snow covered the higher slopes in a thin white layer.

Fresh snowfall was also reported from Tulail Valley and Kabul Gali in the Gurez sector of north Kashmir's Bandipora district. Kabul Gali, situated at an altitude of around 4,167 metres, received light to moderate snowfall.
