SC To Hear Challenge to Aadhaar's Use Beyond Identity Proof
Srinagar, June 15 -- Srinagar- The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Tuesday a public interest litigation seeking directions to restrict the use of Aadhaar strictly to identity verification and prevent its use as proof of citizenship, domicile, residence or date of birth.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana is likely to hear the plea filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.
The petition seeks directions to the Centre, state governments and the Election Commission of India to ensure that Aadhaar is used only as proof of identity and not as evidence of citizenship, domicile, address or age.
