Protect Guryul Now
Srinagar, Sept. 4 -- Guryul Ravine has earned national recognition for a geological record that can survive only if the site itself is protected.
Located near Khonmoh in Srinagar, the site records a geological crisis from about 252 million years ago, when roughly 95 percent of marine species and more than 70 percent of land species disappeared.
The Geological Survey of India recognised Guryul as a National Geoheritage Site in October 2025, giving the administration a clear reason to put protection measures in place.
The delay has now become the central concern.
Guryul still awaits a formal protection notification, while questions have emerged about industrial activity near the site.
