Srinagar, Aug. 12 -- NGT Takes Note of Illegal Dumping; Municipality Faces Prosecution Over 197 Days of Waste Violations

Srinagar - The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) has issued a show-cause notice to the Municipal Committee Awantipora, proposing environmental compensation of Rs 33.24 lakh over the alleged unscientific dumping of municipal waste near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at Dangerpora-Padgampora in Pulwama district.

The action comes in the wake of proceedings before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which took up a petition alleging large-scale dumping of municipal solid waste, plastic and biomedical waste in the area.
