Srinagar, July 20 -- New Delhi- Escalating its campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, the ruling National Conference (NC) on Monday took its protest to the national capital, with party president Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, ministers, legislators and workers staging a demonstration on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session.

The protest, mirrored by coordinated demonstrations across Jammu and Kashmir, was aimed at pressing the Centre to fulfil its commitment to restore statehood to the Union Territory, a promise the party says was made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court.
