Srinagar, July 28 -- Srinagar- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday expressed regret over her controversial remarks at the recent Jantar Mantar protest, describing them as a "slip of the tongue" and clarifying that the statement had been taken out of context.

Addressing a press conference on the party's 27th Foundation Day in Srinagar, the former chief minister maintained that the viral video of her remarks was authentic and had not been doctored.

"I gave bytes to a lot of people there. In one byte I said there is militancy and intended to say 'bahana banta hai', but due to the rush of media interactions I could not utter the word 'bahana'. I thought I had said that," Mehbooba said.
