Srinagar, June 26 -- Srinagar - Invoking the lessons of Karbala during his Yaum-e-Ashura address, Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged India and Pakistan to embrace dialogue over confrontation, saying the recent US-Iran understanding highlighted the limitations of military force.

Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jama Masjid here, the Mirwaiz said the tragedy of Karbala was not merely a historical event but an enduring lesson in truth, justice, patience and sacrifice.

He said Imam Hussain did not seek war or confrontation but stood for resolving differences through truth, adherence to Islamic principles and sincere dialogue.
