By the time Prof. Nilofer Khan reached the University of Kashmir's Kupwara Campus on Thursday, the agenda had moved well beyond classrooms and lecture halls.

Roads, land, hostels, transport and the courses students could study there were all on the table.

The university's vice chancellor met students, faculty members, civil society representatives, educationists and district officials to take stock of the campus and discuss its next phase of growth.

Senior university officials joined the meeting, along with representatives of the revenue, forest, roads and power departments.

Land emerged as one of the first practical concerns.
