Srinagar, Sept. 2 -- Srinagar showdown between the National Conference and the BJP has surprised political analysts and prompted pundits to make fresh projections about Kashmir politics.

The striking feature was the BJP's show of strength in the summer capital, where the party was once difficult to imagine as a serious political force. Its ability to assemble a sizeable cadre base in city has added a new dimension to the contest.

The BJP's presence in the valley has often been more visible through party programmes, press conferences, institutional activity and social media than through large public demonstrations.
