Srinagar, Aug. 7 -- Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2026, replacing the existing licensing regime with a simplified registration system in a move aimed at reducing the regulatory burden on businesses while strengthening consumer protection.

Under the new rules, manufacturers, dealers and repairers of weights and measures will no longer be required to obtain licences. Instead, they will be issued registration certificates, eliminating the need for periodic renewals.

The rules also do away with mandatory pre-registration inspections, a measure expected to expedite approvals and lower compliance costs for businesses.
