Srinagar, Sept. 21 -- Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday departed from its long-standing practice by proceeding with government business immediately after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather read out obituary references for former legislators.

The House paid homage to former Members of the Legislative Assembly Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan before taking up the listed business.

During the obituary references, Rather read out the names of the deceased former lawmakers, while no other member participated in the proceedings by delivering tributes.

The members later observed a two-minute silence in memory of the departed legislators.
