Srinagar, Aug. 18 -- Kolkata- The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Moore Avenue Government Housing Estate, 159 NSC Bose Road, Kolkata, in the presence of senior West Bengal government officials, residents and their families.

The gathering paid tribute to freedom fighters and remembered the sacrifices made for India's independence. Special emphasis was laid on the contribution of women to the freedom movement, with particular tribute to freedom fighter Matangini Hazra and her courage and sacrifice.
