India, Oct. 15 -- A court here on Thursday sentenced a woman's husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law to life imprisonment for smothering her to death at Nund-Reshi Colony-B, Bemina, in 2022.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, sentenced Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, husband of the deceased, Mst. Hafeeza Begum, her mother-in-law, and Parveez Ahmad Dar alias Bilal, her brother-in-law, to simple imprisonment for life under Section 302 read with Section 120-B IPC.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the three convicts. In default of payment, they will undergo a further six months' imprisonment each.
