High Court Orders J&K Govt to Enforce Women's Quota
Srinagar, Aug. 14 -- Srinagar- The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has issued a set of directions to the concerned authorities to ensure effective implementation of reserved seating for women in public transport and to put in place a mechanism for addressing complaints by women commuters.
The directions were passed by a Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani in a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate Monisa Manzoor Mir.
Taking note of the nature of the controversy, the Bench said the directions were necessary to ensure the "safety and comfort of the women commuters in the public transport."
