Srinagar, July 31 -- Srinagar- A Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was injured after his service rifle accidentally went off in Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday, officials said.

The policeman sustained a gunshot wound to his foot and was immediately shifted to the Sub-District Hospital in Kokernag for initial treatment, they said.

He was later referred to Government Medical College, Anantnag, for specialised treatment.

The injured cop has been identified as Mohammad Altaf Khan, son of Habibi Ull Khan.

His condition is being monitored, while further details are awaited, officials said.
