Srinagar, Sept. 29 -- Srinagar- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday reviewed the Draft J&K Hydropower Policy 2026, calling for measures to accelerate the development of Jammu and Kashmir's hydropower potential while ensuring energy security, environmental sustainability and public welfare.

Chairing a meeting on the proposed policy, Abdullah directed officials to address the challenges that have slowed hydropower development and establish a clear roadmap for faster and sustainable expansion of the sector.

The meeting reviewed Jammu and Kashmir's identified hydropower potential of 14,635 MW, with the Chenab and Jhelum river basins accounting for 11,283 MW and 3,084 MW, respectively.
