Srinagar, April 25 -- Srinagar-A massive avalanche struck Shaitani Nallah in the Drass sector of Kargil on Saturday afternoon, trapping multiple vehicles and disrupting traffic along the strategic Srinagar-Leh National Highway, officials said.

The incident occurred around 4 pm near the Zojila axis, a stretch known for frequent snow-related hazards. At least seven goods vehicles, including two tankers, were caught in the avalanche while en route to Kargil from Sonamarg.

Officials said a coordinated rescue operation was launched immediately, with teams from the civil administration and police rushing to the site in Drass. Efforts were initiated to evacuate those trapped and assess the scale of the impact.
