Srinagar, Aug. 6 -- Srinagar- A court in Srinagar on Thursday sentenced a man convicted of murdering an elderly person inside a mosque here to life imprisonment, holding that although the offence was heinous, it did not fall within the "rarest of rare" category warranting the death penalty.

The Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Haq Nawaz Zargar, on Monday convicted Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar in the 2020 murder case of Abdul Gani Dar, who was killed inside the Markazi Ahle Hadees Masjid at Gawkadal in Srinagar.
