'Mere Mob Presence Not Enough': Court Discharges 7 in Pulwama Arson Case
Srinagar, Sept. 8 -- Srinagar- A court in Jammu has discharged seven accused in a 2019 arson case arising from protests held in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, observing that a court is not a "mere post office" to frame charges at the behest of the prosecution.
Second Additional Sessions Judge Anoop Kumar Sharma also held that mere presence in a large gathering could not, by itself, attract criminal liability for offences allegedly committed by some members of a mob.
The court passed the order on September 5 while dismissing the chargesheet against Rohit Sharma, Kailash Kumar, Manant Kumar, Sajan Kumar, Sukhdev Singh alias "Rinku", Sahil Sharma and Jagdish Kumar.
