Srinagar, June 16 -- Jammu- A policeman died after falling from the fourth floor of his battalion headquarters building in Poonch district on Tuesday, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Srinagar and posted in the battalion headquarters located in the Behra area of Mendhar.

According to officials, Ahmad had gone to retrieve clothes that had been left out for drying on the top floor of the building after weather conditions turned cloudy. During the process, he allegedly lost his balance and fell from the fourth floor.

He sustained critical injuries and died on the spot, officials said.

The body was shifted to Sub-District Hospital Mendhar for postmortem examination.
