India, March 23 -- Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena today launched the Indus River Green Corridor Eco-Restoration Plantation at Spituk Pharka, aimed at restoring the ecological integrity of the Indus riverbanks and creating green buffers in Leh-Ladakh's fragile desert landscape. The initiative is described as a unique Cold Desert River Bank Restoration Project in India.

Nearly 1000 saplings of indigenous species such as Oleaster, Sea buckthorn, Indian Willow, Black Poplar, and White Willow were planted on one hectare of land along the riverbank, with contributions from civil administration, defence forces, police, and local communities, including Spituk Monastery.
