Flashfloods
Srinagar, July 10 -- Flashfloods have wreaked havoc in the Chenab Valley. The under-construction 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project was severely damaged when mounds of debris entered the site. A massive flow of water and mud swept through the area, burying several vehicles under debris. The National Highway 244 was closed after debris blocked the road at Premnagar. Heavy rainfall triggered flashfloods in the upper reaches of Thathri town in Doda district, damaging several houses, shops and vehicles. A massive operation has been launched to clear the debris and open the road. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, assured all possible assistance.
