Budgam, Nov. 3 -- Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday announced his decision to quit the ruling National Conference (NC) and resign as Member of Parliament from Srinagar, while addressing a public gathering at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam.

Addressing the gathering on the death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi, Ruhullah reiterated his differences with the NC leadership, accusing the party of betraying the public mandate and failing to honour its electoral commitments.

He said his decision was not driven by personal grievances or disappointment over being denied any position within the party, but by his unwillingness to compromise on issues on which the NC had sought public support.
