Lesotho, Oct. 4 -- For more than two decades, farming has been the main source of livelihood for Idris Alhassan, an indigene of Lafiagi in Kwara State. As a farmer and father of three, Alhassan has depended on his harvests to provide for his family and support his children's education. But the road that once led to his farm has now become a source of fear.
Recounting how much he made from farming before the growing insecurity in the area, Alhassan said he invested more than N5 million in farming in late 2024 and early 2025 and harvested 100 bags each of maize, beans, sorghum and millet. He said maize and sorghum sold for about N30,000 per bag, millet for N28,000, and beans for N45,000 per bag.
