Bangladesh, Sept. 23 -- The Bangladesh Welding Electrodes Manufacturers Association (BWEMA) has urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to restore the concessional-duty facility on imported hot-rolled non-alloy steel-wire rod, warning that the current customs assessment could severely affect domestic welding electrode manufacturers.

Advertisement In a letter to the NBR chairman on September 21, the association said hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod is the main raw material used to manufacture welding electrodes and is also produced locally.

NBR officials, however, told the FE that they were yet to receive the letter. They said the revenue authority generally considers such issues to support domestic manufacturing industries.
