WEEKLY KITCHEN MARKET: Rice becomes costlier even at peak Boro season
Dhaka, June 20 -- Rice prices started rising again from last week after remaining largely stable for nearly one and a half months, despite the ongoing peak harvesting season of Boro paddy.
However, prices of eggs and most vegetables have declined slightly, offering consumers some relief amid persistently high living costs.
Freshly harvested Boro paddy has already reached markets across the country.
After harvesting began in mid-April, rice prices had shown a modest decline in local markets. But that relief proved short-lived, as prices started climbing again within a month, according to market sources.
Over the past week, retail prices of all varieties of rice in Dhaka increased by Tk 3.0-5.0 per kg.
