US overtakes India as Bangladesh's second-largest trading partner
Bangladesh, Aug. 21 -- The US overtook India to become Bangladesh's second-largest trading partner in May, signifying the growing importance of the American market to the country's external sector, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data.

The shift was driven primarily by Bangladesh's large export surplus with the US.
In May, Bangladesh exported goods worth Tk 104.53 billion to the US and imported Tk 29.79 billion, putting bilateral trade at Tk 134.32 billion.
Trade with India was lower during the month, although the exact figure should be taken from the corresponding BBS table before publication.
