According to reports, around two feet of water accumulated on the railway track due to heavy rainfall since morning. Runoff from nearby hills, along with overflowing water from a drain adjacent to the track, led to waterlogging on the track, making train movement unsafe.

The Koraput-Visakhapatnam train, which was scheduled to reach Rayagada around noon, got stranded at Tikiri station since about 10 am. Hundreds of passengers remained stuck inside the train.
