Dhaka, April 22 -- Strong Shariah governance is crucial to ensuring transparency, accountability and public confidence in the banking sector, industry experts said at a workshop.

Jointly organised by Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and Bangladesh Bank, the three-day workshop titled 'Shariah Governance for the Members of Shariah Supervisory Committee' began in the city on Tuesday.

Md. Kabir Ahmed, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB), inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while Md Ezazul Islam, Director General of BIBM chaired the event. Prof Abu Bakr Rafique, Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Board of Bangladesh Bank, was present as special guest.
