Bangladesh, Nov. 1 -- A Dhaka court on Sunday rejected the bail plea of Jamat-e-Islami Member of Parliament (MP) Gazi Nazrul Islam in a case filed against him for allegedly abetting the suicide of his second wife, Marium.

Gazi Nazrul's lawyer moved the bail application before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir. Following the hearing, the court rejected the bail petition, reports BSS.

Azizul Haque Didar, the state counsel, confirmed this development to the news agency. Gazi Nazrul Islam, a lawmaker from Satkhira Sadar constituency was arrested by the police on September 20 last.

The following day, September 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam granted a four-day remand for him.
