Rupali Bank seeks Tk 50b lifeline
Bangladesh, Aug. 28 -- State-run Rupali Bank has sought Tk 50 billion in fresh capital support from the government after incurring a net loss of Tk 6.43 billion in the first seven months of this year, intensifying concerns over the lender's deteriorating financial health.

The request comes as the bank grapples with soaring stressed loans, a massive provision shortfall and a critically weak capital adequacy position, officials said, prompting the government to press for a time-bound turnaround plan alongside any recapitalisation.
