Bangladesh, Sept. 8 -- RMG leaders and energy experts have called for an urgent shift towards renewable energy to protect Bangladesh's garment sector from rising fuel costs and power supply instability.

Advertisement Industry leaders made the call at the "Rapid Energy Transition Conference", organised by Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh on Monday.

A BGMEA survey of 453 garment factories identified approximately 165 to 170 MW of unused rooftop solar capacity across the country.

Nishat Nahrin Hamid, Chairman of BGMEA's Standing Committee on Energy Optimisation, presented the survey findings.

She pointed out that factory owners have shown high interest in adopting green energy.
