Regulator warns against purchase of overpriced fund units
Bangladesh, Oct. 6 -- The securities regulator has urged investors to review a mutual fund's net asset value (NAV) and other key fundamentals before investing, warning that buying overpriced units could expose them to potential losses.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) raised the alarm on Monday after observing that units of some mutual funds were being traded in the stock market at prices substantially higher than their respective NAVs.
Investors have shown heightened interest in several mutual funds, driving up unit prices in the secondary market. This has widened the gap between the market value of the units and the underlying asset value.
