Dhaka, April 22 -- The government is moving to phase out long-standing tax holidays, signalling a shift towards a more uniform and compliance-driven tax regime.
The focus is now on ensuring that all businesses contribute, rather than relying on exemptions, to attract investment, officials say.
The stance comes amid growing pressure from industry groups seeking extended incentives, highlighting a policy divide between revenue-mobilisation goals and investment-promotion strategies.
The government has no plan to offer further tax holidays for any industry, said National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, responding to demands raised by the businesses at a pre-budget discussion held at the NBR headquarters on Tuesday.
