Dhaka, March 17 -- A painter has been killed while trying to protect his son from an attack allegedly carried out by his rivals in Natore. The son has been seriously injured and hospitalised.

Natore's Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khayer Alam said the incident took place in the Kandibhita area of Natore town around midnight on Monday, bdnews24.com reports.

The victim has been identified as local resident Abul Kalam, 50.

His son Kawsar Mahmud, 25, had gotten into an altercation with some neighbours, including Hafiz, Hamza and Emon, over the parking of a motorcycle nearly a week ago.

As payback for the incident, the three of them banded together and attacked Kawser late on Monday night.
