Bangladesh, July 18 -- Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed to the Election Commission (EC) that leaders of the Awami League, whose political activities remain banned, be barred from taking part in non-partisan local government elections.

Advertisement The main opposition party in parliament recommended integrating this restriction into the proposed electoral code of conduct for local government polls.

According to the proposal, office bearers and active leaders of political parties whose activities have been banned by the government should be declared ineligible for city corporations, municipalities, and district, Upazila, and Union council elections.
