Dhaka, July 6 -- The country's rate of inflation rate spiked in June last over its corresponding month last year

Overall inflation stood at 9.16 per cent, up by 0.68 percentage points year-on-year, according to BBS.

Food inflation 8.60 per cent while it was 7.39 per cent a year earlier.

Non-food inflation surged at 9.61 per cent in the month Against-June last year of 9.37 per cent.

Economists say the overall inflation remained above 9.0 per cent in June 2026 as both food and non-food items were more expensive than in the corresponding month a year earlier.

"Inflationary pressures were relatively higher in rural areas than in urban areas", said an economist.
