Dhaka, June 8 -- The government will scrutinise the existing electricity transmission systems before commissioning the country's lone nuclear power plant to avoid any disruptions.

The minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources (MPEMR), Iqbal Hasan Mahmood, also directed the concerned government officials to initiate the scrutiny.

"Since nuclear power involves advanced technology, we must be properly prepared before production begins," he told the newsmen, justifying the government's move.

State-run Power Grid Company of Bangladesh has been instructed to conduct necessary studies and prepare a concept paper, he said, adding that this paper will be reviewed by foreign consultants experienced in nuclear power, he sai...
