Bangladesh, Sept. 22 -- The government had no better option than raising fuel prices despite knowing that the move would add to the hardship of ordinary people, said Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, adviser to the prime minister on information and broadcasting, on Tuesday.

Advertisement "We know that this will increase the suffering of ordinary people to some extent," he said at a weekly briefing on the progress of government activities at the PID conference room at the Secretariat.

Zahed said the government would not deliberately take such an unpopular decision at a time when local government elections were approaching.
