Govt cuts shopping hours, restricts illumination to save power
Bangladesh, Aug. 12 -- The government has asked the country's shopping malls, markets and shops to remain open from 11 am to 8 pm everyday instead of previous closing time of 9 pm under the latest austerity measure to cope with the country's power and energy crisis.

All electric bill boards must be switched off by 7 pm and all sorts of illumination must be stopped under the austerity measure, which has come into effect from today (Wednesday).
The Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) issued a notification in this regard this evening.
The government also requested that all fairs and cultural programmes be stopped by 8 pm
