Dhaka, March 12 -- The first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad began on Thursday following a summons by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The session started at 11:00 am at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital. On the opening day, the House is scheduled to elect a new speaker and deputy speaker. As a result, the session began with the speaker's chair left vacant.

This marks the first parliamentary session since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024.

According to the constitution, the President will address the inaugural session of the new parliament. He will also administer the oath to the newly elected speaker and Deputy Speaker.
