Dhaka, April 12 -- Former speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury has been granted bail by a Dhaka court on Sunday, according to local media reports.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan approved her bail petition, court sources said.

According to the sources, Chowdhury was not produced before the court on the day. Her lawyers represented her during the hearing.

She was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police around 4:30 am on Tuesday (Apr 7) from a residence in Dhanmondi in the capital.

Later, she was taken to the DB office on Minto Road and subsequently produced before a court.

Following a court order, she was sent to jail.
