Bangladesh, Oct. 16 -- Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Thursday said initiatives were underway to enhance the capacity of the Chattogram and Mongla seaports, construct a deep-sea port at Matarbari and improve operational efficiency of the Payra seaport.

He mentioned that global expertise was also being leveraged to modernise port management and bring it up to international standards.

The minister made these remarks while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of the 8th BIMOX 2026' (Bangladesh International Marine and Offshore Expo) -- an international exhibition for the maritime and offshore industry -- held on the day at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Kuril, Dhaka.
