Dhaka, March 23 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has asked illegal occupiers to clear footpaths and roads by the end of March, warning of strict legal action from Apr 1.
In a public notice signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar on Monday, the authorities warned that mobile courts will begin operations on Apr 1, bdnews24.com reports.
Those failing to comply will face jail time, fines, and the seizure of their goods and equipment, the notice said.
The directive highlighted how businesses have systematically split over onto public walkways.
According to the DMP, this illegal expansion has created "serious obstacles" for pedestrians, forcing them to walk on main roads.
