Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- Chattogram residents continue to suffer from temporary but severe waterlogging during the monsoon, despite authorities spending billions of taka over more than a decade on several large-scale drainage projects.

Heavy rainfall has inundated low-lying parts of the port city, with knee-deep water reported in several areas. Delays in project implementation, lack of coordination, inadequate planning and public indifference have turned waterlogging into a recurring nightmare for residents.

A total of 167mm of rain was recorded in Chattogram over the past 24 hours, while 81mm was recorded between 6am and 9am on Monday, said Abdur Rahman Khan, deputy director of the Patenga Meteorological Office.
